Informational Text

K: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the text in which they appear.

1: Use the illustrations and detail in a text to describe the key details.

2: Explain how specific images contribute to and clarify a text.

3: Use information gained from illustrations and words in a text and demonstrate understanding.

4: Interpret presented visually orally or quantitatively and explain how the information contributes to understanding.

Skills and Strategies

Reading standard 7 expects student’s to interpret visual elements of a text and compare and contrast text version with versions that rely on auditory visual or multimedia modes of presentations.

Students also learn to use multiple sources both print and digital to find information.

 

Literature

K: Images and understand what the story is and how it relates to image.

1: Use story details and images to identify and understand characters setting and events

2: Identify and explain a story, character, setting, and plot using images or printed words or digital text.

3: Explain images and explain how they contributed to the printed words.

4: Make connections between description in texts or stage directions and the oral visual represent of them.

5: Recognize and analyze meaning tone and beauty in visual multimedia elements of a text.

 

Information

K: Identify image and use it to understand the text

1: Identify details in a text.

2: Identify images in an informational text.

3: Recognize key events in a text.

4: Define and interpret the text features.

5: Obtain information from print sources.

Activity Grade 2

Students will be shows the wordless picture book in a whole group setting. They will grouped up to come with ideas about what is going on in each page.

Elements: Setting, characters, problem, resolution.

Generate research questions about a theme or topic being studied.

Search for responses.

Analyze the information.

Choose a model.

Share the results.
